Graduate level Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate and Moderate to Intensive Educational Needs and Early Childhood Intervention Specialist) applicants will use the application link at the bottom of this page and follow the special notes that apply to your admissions process as noted below.

The admissions process:

1. Fill out and submit the online application form after you have completed reviewing the requirements. The Link is at the bottom of this page.

2. Attain a passing score on the Praxis I (PPST) Test

(not required for graduate level Intervention Specialist programs)

Praxis I Score Requirements: For the Early Childhood program, the Praxis I Score requirements are as follows:

Reading: 175
Writing: 173
Math: 174

The Praxis I (PPST) Score requirements for Business Education, Health, Physical Education & Recreation, Marketing Education, and Vocational Education are as follows:

Reading: 172
Writing: 172
Math: 172

3. Complete 45 credit hours of collegiate coursework:

(not required for graduate level Intervention Specialist programs)

At least 45 quarters hours of collegiate coursework is required for admission into the program.

You must submit photo copies copies of all transcripts to the Office of Student Services in 378 Allyn Hall. See "Why do I need to submit photocopies of transcripts?" in the FAQ section of this web site

4. Obtain a GPA of 2.5 or better:

(graduate level Intervention Specialist programs required a 2.7 for admission to the School of Graduate Studies as a degree student or a 2.5 as a licensure only candidate)

You must have attained at least a 2.5 WSU cumulative GPA if you have attended WSU, if not, we use the average GPA of your previous institution(s).

5. Complete the Writing Sample:

(required for graduate level Intervention Specialist programs, special writing prompts have been developed for applicants to these programs)

Policy: The CEHS Office of Student Services will administer a writing sample of 250 to 500 words as a part of the application process for admission.

Schedule: Writing Samples are held in 384 Allyn Hall. Writing Sample collection sessions will be held every Monday at 2:00pm and every Tuesday at 10:00am. The exception to this schedule is when the dates fall on a holiday or other circumstance in which the University is not open for business.

Procedure: A calendar for each quarter will be made available by the Student Services secretary. Students are requested to sign up for sessions, but walk-ins will be honored if space permits.

Applicants must arrange for their writing sample on a timely basis - the writing sample is considered a part of the application and must comply with the application deadlines.

Collection of Writing Samples: Applicants are to report to the assigned room on the assigned date and time.

• Applicants will provide a large blue examination booklet ("Blue Book"), black ink pens, and a picture ID. Do not bring a dictionary or thesaurus - they are not permitted.
• Writing Samples are to be written in pen (black indelible ink).
• Applicants will be asked to present a picture ID to verify their identity.

The supervisor will assign a topic and allow 1 1/2 hours for the completion of the writing sample. It is important to note that the writing sample is not a timed event. We book the room for 1 1/2 hours, but applicants can have as much time as they need to complete the writing sample. The goal is collect a sample of your "best effort", not to see what you produce within a specific time period. Please let us know if you will need more time and we will find another space for you to complete your sample if the room we booked is needed.

Writing Sample Evaluation: The writing sample is available as another item for consideration in the total acceptance process. It is the discretion of the selection committee as to how the sample will be considered and how the sample will be evaluated. Writing samples of Early Childhood candidates are evaluated prior to the application going before the Admissions Committee. Writing samples for other programs are read as a part of the committee review and/or interview session.

Writing samples are evaluated primarily on sentence structure, spelling, grammar, word usage and basics of writing. Content is important but not the primary purpose of the writing sample. Students who feel they need assistance with writing are encouraged to visit the University's Writing Center, 031 Dunbar Library, (937) 775-4186.

Special Circumstances: Students with a learning or physical disability that may require special consideration shall be accommodated through the Office of Disability Services, E186 Student Union, (937) 775-5680. Any modifications of the stated policy and procedure or accommodations made for the purpose of collecting the writing sample will be noted with the writing sample. Exceptions to the customary process may be made with the approval of Chris Murphy, the Director of Student Services, (937) 775-4508.

6. Complete Two(2) Recommendation Forms

Candidates must submit a clear BCCI/FBI background check in accordance with the state of Ohio Department of Education (ODE) licensure requirements. When you complete a back ground check, you must indicate that the results are to be sent to:
