General Information
The criteria described below will permit a request to be reviewed by the college's Graduate Studies Committee (GSC). As these awards are for all CEHS programs, beginning on any academic term, request are considered on a "first come, first serve" basis. The committee has established application deadlines for each academic quarter (see below).

Award recommendations are made at the professional discretion of the faculty members of the GSC. Factors that could influence recommendation considerations include, but are not limited to: grade point average, previous awards made to various departmental programs, diversity/under represented needs in a departmental major, strength of recommendations and available funding at time of review.

Criteria for consideration
The GSC has established a minimum 3.0 undergrad gpa to be considered for any CEHS scholarship. The undergraduate gpa is determined by the School of Graduate Studies as a part of the admissions process and must be at at or above a 3.0 at the time of the scholarship application deadline. Graduate level gpa's are not applicable.

Students who are from under represented groups and are interested in Education or Human Service programs are encouraged to apply. The demographics of the professions represented by the CEHS programs indicate a critical need for minorities, especially African Americans.

Women are under represented in Educational Leadership roles, the mathematics and sciences teaching fields, and in the area of Physical Education. Men are under represented in Early Childhood, Middle Childhood Education, and Human Services fields.

In general, the teaching professions also have a high need for teachers in Mathematics, Science, Foreign Languages and Special Education (Intervention Specialists).

People with physical challenges are under represented in all of the college’s majors.

In addition to the under represented groups described above, candidates can be considered solely on the basis of academic excellence. Candidates who wish to cite the area of academic excellence in their letter of application must have a 3.5 or higher undergraduate gpa as determined by the School of Graduate Studies, at the time of the application deadline. Graduate level gpa's are not applicable.

Awards
The primary criteria for awarding the Graduate Tuition Scholarship (GTS) will be based on the student’s overall academic record, their potential for academic success in targeted programs, and the diversity characteristics cited above. At the time the faculty review of GTS applications, the candidate must be admitted to the School of Graduate Studies in a regular, degree-seeking status - non degree applicants, conditionally accepted students, and provisionally accepted students will not be considered (except for native Wright State students). Native Wright State students enrolled in an undergraduate program and provisionally accepted to the School of Graduate Studies will be eligible for consideration. The intent of the program is to recruit new students; currently enrolled graduate students will not be considered.

Tuition Waiver
Awardees will receive fee waivers to support full time tuition, defined as 12 to 18 credit hours per quarter. Students can be eligible for GTS support for two years (up to six academic year quarters and two summer quarters), pending availability of funds. One year, four quarter awards may also be awarded to selected students. Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, remain in a degree seeking status, and be enrolled for 12 to 18 credit hours each academic quarter for GTS support to continue to a subsequent quarter. All Scholarship awards are formally reviewed for renewal each spring for the following academic year.

Letter of Application
Applicants must submit the following: a cover letter requesting the GTS and describing the applicant’s declared program of study, career plans, and diversity information (see target groups in Criteria). The cover letter must provide the applicant’s name, address, telephone number, email address and the university’s assigned student number (used to track enrollment). In addition to the cover letter, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from any one of the following -- WSU faculty, area school faculty or administrator, counselor or member of an area human service agency, WSU College of Education and Human Services department chair, or the College’s Dean. Please ask that the letter of support to be given to you and you turn it in attached to your letter of request. Applications that do not contain the information requested above will not be considered.

Deadlines: All application materials, including recommendation letters, must be received by the CEHS Student Services Director prior to the start of the academic quarter in which the nominee intends to begin her or his program.

Deadlines: The CEHS Student Services Director, prior to the established deadlines, must receive all application materials, including the letter of support. If you intend on beginning your studies in the:

Fall (September) academic quarter your letter of support, nomination and acceptance to the School of Graduate Studies must be completed by the first business day of May.
Winter (January) academic quarter your letter of support, nomination and acceptance to the School of Graduate Studies must be completed by the first business day of October.
Spring (March) academic quarter your letter of support, nomination and acceptance to the School of Graduate Studies must be completed by the first business day of February.
Summer (June & July) academic quarter your letter of support, nomination and acceptance to the School of Graduate Studies must be completed by the first business day of May.
