Abstract:

Wright State University has crafted teacher preparation programs in Early Childhood,

Middle Childhood and Adolescent/Young Adult Education. The programs require that

pre-service teachers possess the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to educate students who are typically developing as well as those with special learning and developmental needs. These licensure programs meet or surpass state guidelines, and the professional standards of the specific age level (NAEYC & NMSA) and/or field of study (NCSS, NCTM, etc). In addition, Institutes of Higher Education must also earn NCATE approval.

This session presents this collaborative comprehensive model of instruction in

Early Childhood, Middle Childhood and Adolescent/Young Adult Education at Wright State University in which the university and the and local partnership schools work together to design programs which will better prepare educators to teach students of all ages the skills needed to teach effectively in the 21st century.
