Title of Presentation:

Redesigning Teacher Education:  The Professional Year Program

 Brief Description

Wright State University  has joined with the Dayton metropolitan community,  in a collaborative effort. Partners Transforming Education: School - University - Community. The joint goal is to create a new culture of highly effective professional educators, responsive to society's needs.

Our partnership program has been designated as a "Professional Year Program" (PYP).  This program is an intensive, year long certification program for students possessing an undergraduate degree. The participants are preparing to begin a second career in the field of education in their specialty area.

A PYP student spends a summer plus a full academic year in field experiences and in WSU classes taught on-site, allowing the PYP students the fullest participation possible at the partnership site for an entire school year.  These students are then able to apply for the State of Ohio Teacher's License and are also well on their way to the completion of a Master's Degree.

Presentation  Format/AV
