ABSTRACT:
The presenters will offer a dicussion of the Web as a tool for teaching about National & Ethnic Idenitities. Audience discussion will be encouraged. The presenters will share web sites and a discussion of these web sites.
The World Wide Web is a more recent application on the Internet which gathers resources from a global basis . A primary attraction of the web is the visual presentation provided by hypertext and hypermedia links. Through these electronic tools, students may gain access to museums, science centers and libraries.
Students using the web for individual or collaborative research may begin to search the literature by using a search engine such as Lycos, Excite or Yahoo. Students can access on-line magazines, newspapers, books, and photos. Older students using electronic libraries may obtain full text or abridged summaries of journal articles and research reports.
RATIONALE
Numerous websites will attract the young learner. Hundreds of new websites appear daily, and web servers change too frequently. The authors have developed websites which provide links to thousands of educational sites. Please visit our web pages at http://www.ed.wright.edu/cehs. It is important for international educators to carefully guide students in the use of the web resources.
