ABSTRACT:

The presenters will offer a discussion of the International Sister Cities Program. Audience discussion will be encouraged. The presenters will share their experiences at recent International Sister Cities conferences.

The International Sister Cities Program was initiated by former President Eisenhower. The purpose is to link U.S. cities with one or more international cities. Not only do political exchanges occur, but service clubs, sports teams, music group, and business people enjoy international exchanges.

This presentation will share fifteen years of experience with the International Sister Cities Program.

There seems to be a natural affinity for social studies educators to become closely associated with these programs.

RATIONALE

Education is a major goal of the International Sister Cities Program. Youth exchanges are central to the mission of the International Sister Cities Program. The presenters will relate their experiences with both youth and adult exchanges.
