Presentation will be an audience interactive demonstration and discussion by three voices:

1. Early Childhood

2. Early Adolescence

3. Adolescent and Young Adult

Session Content:

Leadership, Resource., Leveraging, Instructional Leadership, Data Analysis, Evaluation, Content/Discipline Areas: ALL NBPTS Certification areas from K--12, School Reform, Measures of Teacher Effectiveness

Brief Narrative Description:

The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards is an organization of teachers and many other educational organizations and associations working to promote the improvement of student learning. The central process of The NBPTS is both student assessment and teacher assessment.

It is important to note that a majority of the board of directors of the NBPTS is teachers. Teachers are clearly central to planning, implementing, developing, and modifying the NBPTS policies and procedures. The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards may be contacted at 1.800.22.teach or at http://www.nbpts.org.

Wright State University is one of several Ohio Universities which offer facilities, course credit, and formal sessions for candidates for NBPTS certification.

Session Outline:

This presentation will be interactive with participants. Professional materials will be distributed for actual application for participants. NBPTS facilitators will discuss both the emotional and the intellectual demands of the certification process.

Presentation strategies will provide information to all current certification areas:

• Early Childhood/Generalist (ages 3-8)

• Middle Childhood/Generalist (ages 7-12)

• Early Adolescence Generalist (ages 11-15)

• Early Adolescence/English Language Arts (ages 11-15)

• Early Adolescence/Science (ages 11-15)

• Early Adolescence/Math (ages 11-15)

• Early Adolescence/Social Studies-History (ages 11-15)

• Early Adolescence through Young Adult/Art (ages 11-18+)

• Adolescence through Young Adult/Mathematics (ages 14-18+)

• Adolescence through Young Adult/Science (ages 14-18+)

• Adolescence through Young Adult/English Language Arts (ages 14-18+)

• Adolescence through Young Adult/Social Studies-History (ages 14-18+)

Teachers and administrators will be provide information on Ohio support for the certification process during the 1999- 2000 academic year.

Learner Objectives:

1. Educators will identify the current areas of Ohio NBPTS certification

2. Administrators and curriculum personnel will be aware of internal support systems for NBPTS candidates

3. Ohio educators will be aware of ODE support systems

4. Ohio candidates will become knowledgeable about the Ohio Universities which provide trained facilitators for the NBPTS process.
